TIG Welding Technician
Job Description
OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for performing activities using the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding
process. To accomplish this, the TIG welder uses experience and expertise to join various types of
metals, such as steel, aluminum, or stainless steel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Use gas tungsten arc equipment as part of the fabrication process
• Install or repair metal components
• Use grinding and polishing equipment in the final process
• Follow blueprints, diagrams, or technical schematics
• Read and interpret production drawings
• Prepare materials, to include cutting metal components to appropriate size and shape
• Set up welding equipment, including gas tanks, torches, and regulators
• Operate welding machines, tools, and equipment
• Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while welding
• Maintain inventory of welding supplies and equipment
• Perform welding repairs on a variety of metals
• Ensure high quality standards of welded materials
• Assist with other fabrication projects as required
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• High school Diploma or Equivalent Required.
• Certification in TIG welding techniques
Skills & Experience
• 2-3 Years TIG welding experience
• Experience welding nitrated steel preferred
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
• Understanding of welding safety practices and procedures
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime when necessary
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move
up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception,
and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to work within hot environments up to 12 hours a day.
This position may include use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Proper use of PPE is
required.
Additional Information
Attention: Work environment may cause Employees to come into contact with various metal
particulates such as nickel, cobalt, iron, and Tungsten Carbide. Please ask for a full list and MSDS
from the supervisor if there are any known metal or chemical allergies.
